May is Mental Health Month

2 Hands 4 Life Fundraising Campaign

Synod Residential Services hopes to raise $50,000 for the elderly, disabled and mentally ill through a series of charity gaming events held throughout 2009.  In the “2 Hands 4 Life” fundraising campaign, community members will be asked not only to have fun in support of a cause but to reflect on the ways that good overall health, success at home, work and school require good mental as well as physical health. A mental illness often results in crushing poverty and difficulty maintaining employment.

For the past 35 years, “Synod” has quietly provided direct care for individuals struggling with stigmatizing disabilities from mental illness, HIV/AIDS to Hording and Alzheimers.   This year, funding for in home health support was cut, leaving many disabled patients without the help they need to care for themselves, live safely in their homes or attend necessary medical appointments.  The first event features 8 nights of Texas Hold ‘em Poker from May 7 - 10, and May 14- 17, at Coops All in 4 Charity located at 124 Pearl Street in Ypsilanti, MI.
