Substance Abusers
In addition to the health and medical ramifications of drug and alcohol abuse, those who become addicted are at risk for a host of other problems including homelessness and financial difficulties. In addition, those with mental illness can exacerbate their problems when they attempt to self-medicate by abusing illegal drugs or alcohol. The service needs among those who struggle with addiction, along with those with multiple disorders, remain urgent and unmet by traditional techniques of recovery.
One of Synod’s goals in working with those struggling with addiction is to help them stay in a stable housing situation and avoid eviction.
